We're Now on Kiwix!

2 months agoWe're Now on Kiwix!

Hey everyone, just a brief heads up for those who like to use the Kiwix platform, all of the S2 Underground video content is now available on the platform!

For those who aren't familiar with Kiwix, fear not, I will have more to come on this later. The short version is that it's an offline archival platform that allows for storing immense amounts of data offline in an easy to use interface. You can install it on your phone or computer, and download all sorts of data packages, the most popular being an offline copy of Wikipedia.

Well now, all of the S2 Underground Youtube content will be available as a data package. So if you want to hoard almost video I've ever made, here you go! I should note that not every single video is included; the short Wire reports are not going to be included simply because that information is perishable and not really the best fit for long-term, off-grid knowledge archives.

If you'd like to give Kiwix a try, you can get started at this link: https://kiwix.org/en/applications/

Once you install Kiwix, just search for "S2 Underground" and you'll be able to download the data package. If you just want to view or download the raw file, here's the library link: https://library.kiwix.org/viewer#s2underground_en_all_2024-09/index.html

Be advised though, you will need the Kiwix application to view the file anyway, so it's probably best to just download it from within the Kiwix platform itself. But if you wanted to check out what the file looks like beforehand, use the library link posted above!

This file should also update periodically as the scraper pulls new videos from the youtube channel. However, it's not going to be immediate, so all of the content that makes it into the Kiwix Zim file will be stale by a few months. For now, this is a robust, offline archive of the content that might be helpful in the long term. It's just video content for now, and the quality isn't super great due to the extremely amazing compression characteristics of zim files. But it's perfectly usable and small! The size of the file is only a little over 3gb, so you can fit pretty much all S2 Underground videos on your phone, accessible offline until the end of time... How cool is that?

Again, more content to come on this later, just wanted to give a quick notice now for those interested.

Special thanks to my friend Wallace (S2W1) for taking the lead on this, and the Kiwix team for working with us to make this happen! Seriously awesome work!
